Like many towns, Guisborough has felt the quiet strain of modern life — people feeling disconnected, stretched, and unsure who to turn to. Community spaces have dwindled, inequality feels more visible, and there’s a growing sense that the big systems meant to protect people and planet aren’t moving fast enough to meet the challenges we face.

For many of us, waiting for national government, large corporations or distant decision-makers to fix things no longer felt like an option. We saw neighbours wanting change but feeling isolated. We saw skills going unused, resources not being shared, and people longing for something more hopeful and practical.

So we decided to start closer to home.

The Nest was born from the belief that real change begins at community level. If we want a greener, fairer, more connected Guisborough, we have to build it together. By sharing knowledge, supporting one another, pooling resources and taking small, meaningful actions locally, we strengthen both our environment and our sense of belonging.

We may not control global systems, but we can care for our streets, our green spaces, and each other. And when communities come together with purpose, hope grows.
