Online Climate Emergency Centre
At this critical time for our planet what is needed is spaces and infrastructure to help people connect and gather resources to take action for a sustainable future. Over 300 Councils in the UK have declared a climate emergency.
The Climate Emergency Centres (CECs) project enables the development of a self-funding Eco Centre that brings together a diverse alliance of groups and individuals in the local community to build solutions, relationships and resilience in the face of the Climate Emergency and multiple social crises.
Each centre is autonomous but interconnected with a broader network of Centres across the UK that support each other, sharing skills, resources and knowledge.
We don’t have our own premises yet, so for now, we have launched this Online CEC. We will be developing this page and working closely with local authorities to provide a one stop point for our community to access information on how to cope effectively during climate emergency situations and who to contact for support when you need it.
While a lot of emergency situations can happen without warning, there are some things that we can do to prepare for these situations to ensure that we are all as safe and prepared as possible Incase of climate related emergencies.
The Government have produced a great website with clear and simple steps to prepare for emergency situations and the disruption they may cause.CLICK HERE
The Government have also created a form that you can print and fill out with your own emergency plan. It’s a great idea and highly recommended. Ensure that you keep it somewhere handy, alongside other items you may need.CLICK HERE to access the form.

Local support in an emergency
Like the growing number of ‘Warm spaces’ that have appeared over the last few years, we are looking for spaces that can opened up to be used in emergency situations. Places where people can come to charge their phone, get somewhere warm, dry and safe to sit, maybe some food and drink and if needed, basic first aid support.
We are working on creating a network for this and will update this webpage as we grow as well as produce signs for spaces to put up in their windows to promote their spaces.
If you run a local business or have a space that could be used for some, if not all of the above features, please get in touch. Help us to create a network of emergency safe havens for our community.https://www.clevelandemergencyplanning.info/community-resilience/
There is a local organisation called ‘The Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit’ who focus on the localised risks that we face in our region. We are working with them to help raise awareness on the issues that we are likely to face locally and to direct our community to access the right support when we need it.
